While much of our team is distributed across the country, we are raising money for the 2026 Chicago Miles for Melanoma walk in honor Anthony Gomes. There are rare people in our lifetime when words often don’t do enough justice when trying to describe someone. Anthony is one of those people. He was so uniquely and authentically himself. He was loving, humorous, compassionate, competitive, and fiercely loyal and protective of his loved ones, and he lived each day to its fullest. He always aimed to see the best in people and no party was complete without his presence. He truly embodied the phrase “the life of the party.” While it is incredibly difficult not having his physical presence amongst us, his friends and family are so lucky to have him watching over us, and doing what he does best: protecting and loving us unconditionally from above.

Our team, though no longer physically together, is made up of scientists, some of whom research melanoma treatments. We have been long time participants in Miles for Melanoma. We know significant advancement has been made in the past few years in improved detection, more effective and less toxic drug treatments, leading to better survival rates. There is more to be done and a long way to go, but the finish line is in sight. The energy, enthusiasm, and encouragement from patients, survivors, families, friends, caregivers, and the medical community impact many lives and many futures.
