The cure for melanoma begins with me.

I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cutaneous Melanoma at the age of 25. I was given 4 months to live and never thought I would see a future in the teaching profession, let alone get married and have a family. A clinical trial and months of immunotherapy through the University of Colorado Health Science Centers saved my life, my faith, my hopes, and my dreams. Here I am 30 years later with No Evidence of Disease (NED), and I try to give back by advocating, volunteering, educating, and walking with the Miles for Melanoma and the Melanoma Research Foundation.

Every step matters and every step counts. Significant advancement has been made in the past few years in improved detection, new drug treatments and better survival rates. This progress has been built on the breakthroughs made fighting other types of cancers, as well as the existing foundation of melanoma research.

There is more to be done and a long way to go, but the finish line is in sight. The energy, enthusiasm and encouragement from patients, survivors, families, friends, caregivers, and the medical community impacts many lives and many future.
