Melanoma is the deadliest and fastest growing form of skin cancer and we all want a cure to be found soon. Miles for Melanoma is the way people come together to take action and help support this fight and the mission of the Melanoma Research Foundation.

Team Anthony is walking in the 2025 Miles for Melanoma walk in honor Anthony Gomes. There are rare people in our lifetime when words often don’t do enough justice when trying to describe someone. Anthony is one of those people. He was so uniquely and authentically himself. He was loving, humorous, compassionate, competitive, and fiercely loyal and protective of his loved ones, and he lived each day to its fullest. He always aimed to see the best in people and no party was complete without his presence. He truly embodied the phrase “the life of the party.” While it is incredibly difficult not having his physical presence amongst us, his friends and family are so lucky to have him watching over us, and doing what he does best: protecting and loving us unconditionally from above.

We are group of scientists, some of us working on melanoma research, participating in Miles for Melanoma for the fourth year. We know significant advancement has been made in the past few years in improved detection, more effective and less toxic drug treatments, leading to better survival rates. There is more to be done and a long way to go, but the finish line is in sight. The energy, enthusiasm, and encouragement from patients, survivors, families, friends, caregivers, and the medical community impact many lives and many futures.
