In memory of Shane, please join us in the search for a cure.
Our family misses Shane more than our words can possibly convey. We have been involved with MRF and Miles for Melanoma since 2015 when we raised awareness as Shane's dear friend Dayna ran Chicago Marathon and we participated on behalf of the Univ of Chicago (where Shane received the majority of his treatment) As most of you are aware, Shane passed away on Christmas day 2015. The following year, 2016 we started participating as Team Shanespiration in honor of our warrior, Shane. Our team shirts displayed the saying "ATTITUDE - You Never Know What You Are Training For". This saying originated from one of Shane’s yoga instructors and it has remained in our hearts since. It proved to be very true as Shane's cancer journey was the toughest battle any of us have ever faced.
Shane was unbelievably strong as he fought the BEAST for 14.5 years. The first 8-9 years were mostly good, but once his melanoma resurfaced in 2009, the going became more difficult. Shane never gave up hope, as he dealt with each new surgery and targeted therapy. Like a true warrior, Shane faced his battles with strength, courage and optimism, always having a Plan B ibn case Plan A didn’t work out. Shane was dedicated to supporting research to find a cure. Not a single day goes by that we don’t miss our hero but we hope to honor his memory by continuing to raise funds to advocate for a cure. That is exactly what SHANE would have wanted. I am sure he is proud of the efforts his family and friends have made in the search for a cure that has resulted in so many recent developments and the ultimate progress found with the newest targeted therapy combos. Thank you for helping us to fulfill Shane's wishes. We hope you will be able to join us on July 20th, 2025.
